Skin Diseases

If the skin is infected or inflamed at all, do not proceed with the treatment. Refer to doctor. Do not diagnose.

Ringworm
Ringworm is a general term that is used to refer to a number of different contagious fungal infections of the skin, scalp, or nails. The condition is known as ringworm because it can leave a ring-like, red rash on the skin and not because it has anything to do with worms.

Most cases of ringworm are mild and can be successfully treated using anti-fungal medication. Ringworm is contagious, so it is important to take some basic hygiene measures in order to prevent the spread of infection.

Eczema
Eczema is an itchy inflammation of the skin associated to a varying degree with other features such as: ∙

  • redness of affected areas of skin ∙
  • generally dry skin, which is often thickened in the areas that have been scratched ∙
  • lumps or blisters in affected areas ∙
  • signs of superficial infection such as weeping or crusty deposits. ∙
  • “ types may be caused by chemicals ∙
  • Allergic contact -due to skin contact to a substance to which the individual is sensitive. The same substance does not cause eczema in a person who is not sensitive to it.
  • ∙ Irritant contact – due to skin contact with irritating chemicals, powders, cleaning agents, etc. Contact with such a substance is likely to cause eczema in any person, although a degree of individual variation still exists.

Psoriasis
Psoriasis is a skin condition, in which skin cells reproduce too quickly. The condition is not contagious and most people have only small patches of their body affected.

Impetigo
Impetigo is a highly contagious bacterial infection of the skin. Antibiotic creams are normally used to treat the infection, to minimise the risk of the condition spreading. Impetigo is normally not serious, though it is important to take precautions to avoid spreading it to other people.
