Sterilisation
Destroys all living organisms from an object or surface.
Sanitisation
Reduces the number of harmful bacteria on a surface.
Disinfection Controls microorganisms on non-living surfaces.
We must use the above decontamination procedures to reduce harmful bacteria. These are called ‘pathogens’. Non-harmful bacteria are ‘non-pathogenic’.
We must sanitise technician’s hands and client’s hands and nails.
We must also sanitise files/buffers or use single disposable items.
We must disinfect worktops/floors/nail stations/chairs & lamps
Note Disinfection is the second highest level of decontamination.
Do not use disinfectants on skin and nails.
